International adoption statistics for 2007 -- CIC releases partial and delayed results for Canada
BY ROBIN HILBORN, Family Helper editor | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(Nov. 1, 2008) In a better-late-than-never effort, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has just released partial statistics on the number of children adopted into Canada in 2007. China topped the list with 662 children -- up 54 from 2006. Jumping into second place is Ethiopia, with 134 adoptions to Canada (61 in 2007). Russia and the U.S. almost tied for third place, with 96 and 95 adoptions (95 and 96 in 2007). See the list below of 13 countries, as printed in the Oct./Nov. edition of "Focus on Adoption" magazine, by the Adoptive Families Association of British Columbia. So far I haven't seen these numbers posted at the Adoption Council of Canada (ACC) web site, where I would expect to see them first. I'm holding off an analysis of these statistics until I get a full report. I've sent queries to AFABC and ACC, and will post more as soon as I have it. I'm wondering why AFABC got the numbers for only 13 countries. CIC in the past has sent data on 25 countries.
I'm also wondering why CIC is reporting more slowly each year. Here are the dates for CIC reports in the past four years: ________________________________________ You may reproduce this item with the credit: "From Family Helper, www.familyhelper.net" |
