BY ROBIN HILBORN, Family Helper editor | ||||||||||||||||||||||
(Jan. 18, 2005) Reuters reported on the first episode of the "critically trashed program", which was broadcast Jan. 18, 2005. Six episodes of "Who's Your Daddy?" were made in all. Fox said the other five episodes would not be shown. A petition saying "Take that Fox TV program off the air" was backed by the Adoption Council of Canada on Dec. 20, 2004. In the show a woman adopted as an infant interviews eight men and wins $100,000 if she can guess which is her birth father. In a note on Dec. 20, 2004 ACC President Sandra Scarth states that "ACC opposes the program as demeaning to adoptees, birth parents and the entire adoption community." ACC supports a petition, called Stop "Who's Your Daddy" on Fox, which may be found at www.petitiononline.com/rebecca6/petition.html. It was created by Rebecca Copenhaver (luvlex1017@msn.com) and reads, "To: FOX "I am starting this petition in light of Fox coming out with their newest idea of reality television. A program called "who's your Daddy" where an adopted woman get to choose between men to see if she can guess who her birth father is. Being an adoptee, I find this demeaning, disgusting and outrageous. I am sure other adoptee's, birth families and such will agree with me. So please sign this petition in hopes we can can get this show off the air. " To sign the petition, you leave your name and email address. Your name is made public, but your address is kept private. You can make comments on the signatures page and read the comments others have made. This petition is also supported by the North American Council on Adoptable Children, in an email message sent on Dec. 19 by Executive Director Joe Kroll.
