"Family Helper" has resources for each country
BY ROBIN HILBORN, Family Helper editor | |||||||||||||||||||||||
(April 15, 2004) Family Helper web site now offers the section "Country-specific Resources", at www.familyhelper.net/arc/cys.html. You can find resources for adopting from any of 27 countries, from Albania to Vietnam -- web sites, email lists, articles and books.
It's the latest addition to the comprehensive adoption resource listing called "Adoption Resource Central", launched Dec. 23, 2003 by Robin Hilborn, editor of Family Helper magazine. "Ever since I started publishing adoption magazines in 1990 I've been accumulating adoption resources," he said. "Now I've assembled everything in one spot, Adoption Resource Central, or ARC". ARC is at Family Helper web site: see www.familyhelper.net/arc. He added, "I hope Adoption Resource Central will be a useful feature for adoptive parents, researchers, teachers, social workers ... in fact everyone with a connection to adoption." The ARC menu bar lists 28 topics. Click one to read a concise summary, and then see resources related to the topic -- web sites, articles, books, newsletters, videos, email lists, support groups, organizations. The topics cover the full range of adoption subjects, from domestic and international adoption, to how to deal with special needs children, raising adopted children, and search and reunion. Adoption Resource Central grew from handouts Robin used at his workshops at three conferences: Toronto in November 2002 and April 2003, and the NACAC conference in Vancouver in August 2003. In 2001 Robin Hilborn received an Adoption Activist Award from the North American Council on Adoptable Children for "dedicated work in making adoption information more accessible and providing materials for post-adoptive support".
