Saint John, N.B. conference announces workshop lineup
BY ROBIN HILBORN,
Family Helper editor
(March 31, 2004) Conference organizers have released a list of the over 60 workshops at the next national adoption conference, coming to Saint John, New Brunswick, Oct. 14-16, 2004.

The conference "Building Lifelong Connections: Permanency Options for Children and Families" promotes the belief that every child deserves a permanent family and promotes awareness of adoption and other permanency options for children. It's a joint effort of the Adoption Council of Canada (ACC) (888-542-3678, acc@adoption.ca, www.adoption.ca), New Brunswick's Family and Community Services and the New Brunswick Adoption Foundation.

The conference web site was at www.lifelongconnections.ca but has been closed.

Keynote speakers are:
Diane Benoit, of the University of Toronto and the Hospital for Sick Children, on parenting and infant care giving relationships including attachment.
Cindy Blackstock, of the Gitksan Nation, executive director of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada.
Brenda McCreight, social worker and author, counselling B.C. adoptive families and training parents and professionals.
Senator Landon Pearson, advocate for children and Advisor on Children's Rights to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will give a luncheon talk on the National Plan of Action for Children.

The previous national adoption conference in Canada was that of the North American Council on Adoptable Children, held Aug. 7-9, 2003 in Vancouver, B.C.
