Adoption services in Manitoba
BY ROBIN HILBORN, Family Helper editor | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
(Nov. 9, 2001) To recognize the positive efforts of all families who have adopted children in Manitoba, Family Services and Housing Minister Tim Sale proclaimed Nov. 12 to 18 Adoption Awareness Week.
Winnipeg Child and Family Services recently started a new service that offers followup counselling and information for families with adopted children that is suited to their new needs. In addition to Winnipeg Child and Family Services, there are 14 CFS agencies throughout Manitoba that serve children, birth families and adoptive parents. There are also two licensed adoption agencies: Adoptions Options, for domestic adoptions, and Canadian Advocates for African Children, for intercountry adoptions. Agency details are in the Family Helper list of agencies, www.familyhelper.net/arc/agy.html. Other adoption-related services are provided by the Post Adoption Registry of the Department of Family Services and Housing, including services to Child and Family Services and licensed agencies. There are no fees for services at the Post Adoption Registry. More: Manitoba news release, www.gov.mb.ca/chc/press/top/2001/11/2001-11-09-06.html
