New Year's Eve dance kicks off
Southampton's 150th anniversary

Southampton, Ont., Dec. 7, 2007 -- "Deck the halls", we sing, and it's Southampton Town Hall they'll be decorating this Dec. 31. The New Year's Eve Dance, starting at 8 p.m. will usher in 2008, the 150th anniversary of Southampton. (It's 150 years since Southampton was incorporated as a village on July 24, 1858.)

Organizer Steve McMillan says everything is ready. "We'll be tripping the light fantastic as we ring in a year of celebrations marking our 150th anniversary," he said. "We've got music by Flashback, and lunch at 11 pm supplied by Southampton Foodland."

Tickets are $50 per person, and you must be the age of majority. Tickets are for sale at Bayberry's, Hills Insurance and Vincent Jewelers, all in Southampton. Proceeds support the 150th anniversary celebrations.

At the dance you'll have another chance to buy the Southampton, Then and Now calendar, also a fundraiser in favour of the 2008 celebrations.
