You can take part in celebrating Southampton cottage life
Southampton, Ont., Aug. 3, 2007 -- Ah, that summertime getaway by the lake! Going to the cottage has a long history in Southampton, dating back into the 19th century ... and it's a history which needs preserving, says a newly-formed group of volunteers in Southampton.
Their just-launched "Cottage Life" project is part of Southampton's 150th anniversary celebrations. The project is being undertaken with the cooperation of the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre.
Coordinator Bob Miller invites people to take part in the "Cottage Life" project. They can send in historical documents and photos of cottages (including their own), and share their stories of the joys (and headaches) of cottage life. The material will be used for an exhibition celebrating cottage life in Southampton, presented at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre during the summer of 2008.
Bob's group is also planning to organize tours of some of the oldest cottages during the anniversary celebrations on August 14-17, 2008.
