THE DETAILS
Foodland donates "Feast on the Beach" proceeds to Southampton's 150th anniversary celebrations
Southampton, Ont., June 26, 2007 -- Foodland of Southampton has chosen to support the town's 150th anniversary celebrations. Proceeds from Foodland's famous annual BBQ on July 1 will go to the 150th Anniversary Committee. Committee Treasurer Tim Andersen said, "Foodland has always been a strong supporter of town events and we thank them for their generosity. I foresee other town businesses getting into the spirit of celebration."
The "Feast on the Beach" will run from 4 to 7 pm on Sunday, July 1 at Pioneer Park in Southampton. A true feast, it includes all-you-can-eat BBQ beef, ribs and chicken, backed by the music of Flashback.
Katherine Leonard and other Anniversary Committee volunteers will be selling Southampton, Then and Now historical calendars at the feast. Southampton was incorporated as a village on July 24, 1858, and the 16-month calendar (September 2007 to December 2008) recounts 150 years of town history using old and new photographs to contrast how the town used to look with how it looks today. A different subject is featured each month, such as the famous Southampton sunsets, the shipwreck on the beach, the boardwalk, the train station, the Long Dock, Chantry Island lighthouse, and ten other subjects, with historical captions for each.
The calendar will also be on sale at the Firefighters Fish Fry on Saturday June 30 at Pioneer Park from 4 to 8 pm.
